Young and healthy people should also get vaccinated, says Patrick Nip

Even young and healthy people like elite athletes should get vaccinated against COVID-19, said civil service chief Patrick Nip Tak-kuen during his visit to the Hong Kong Sports Institute today.

Nip visited the Institute today to view the administering of the Covid vaccines for athletes and coaches.

"Athletes often need to participate in overseas training and competitions. Three local Karatedo athletes were confirmed as being infected with the virus last year. Therefore, it is very important for athletes to get vaccinated,” said Nip.

“Getting the jab enables them to concentrate on their training and competitions. I hope they will strive for good results for Hong Kong and for themselves in upcoming international competitions.”

He also pointed out that many who received the vaccine today were elite athletes with good physical fitness and health conditions, better than most ordinary people.

“They [elite athletes] fully understand the advantages of getting vaccinated, members of the public should also grasp the opportunity and act immediately to make appointments for vaccination,” Nip added.
