Another man died after receiving Sinovac vaccine

A 61-year-old man has passed away after receiving the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, marking the 13th death under the city’s mass inoculation drive.

The man was admitted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital on March 27 due to chest pain and left shoulder pain. He was later transferred to the intensive care unit, which he suffered from tachycardia and cardiac arrest during treatment.

He was certified dead a day later. The provisional cause of death is acute myocardial infarction.

The man was said to be a chronic smoker.

According to information from the Department of Health, he received his first dose of the Sinovac vaccine at Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre in Sha Tin 12 days (March 16) prior to the date of death and there was no record that the man complained of feeling unwell during observation at the Vaccination Centre.

Department of Health has contacted the Hospital Authority for more information for investigation and evaluation. The case will be referred to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following Covid-19 Immunisation.

Until now, Hong Kong recorded 13 deaths after receiving coronavirus vaccines, of which 11 of them received Sinovac jabs, and the other two received BioNTech vaccines.
