Wong Tai Sin man continues challenge against vaccine pass' discrimination and rights violations

A Wong Tai Sin resident filed an appeal to the High Court against the vaccine pass scheme after his application for a judicial review was rejected in February, as he stressed everyone shall have the freedom to decide on vaccination and enjoy the rights to enter restricted premises.

Back in February, Chung Sung-wong filed the city's first ever judicial review against the “no jab no entry” requirement when authorities pushed forward the vaccination scheme. The application was later rejected and unvaccinated citizens remain barred from premises including restaurants and gyms under the vaccine requirement to this date.

Chung then filed an appeal and after months of waiting, the case was finally mentioned today (Fri) before judges Thomas Au Hing-cheung and Godfrey Lam Wan-ho in the High Court's Court of Appeal. The Office of the Chief Executive of HKSAR was listed the respondent.

Representing himself in the courtroom, Chung mentioned that his father was forced to get the Covid shots to continue working at premises under the vaccine pass scheme. He highlighted that the government cannot force people to get vaccinated by restricting their entry to places.

“Our lives are not determined by the government. The government has no right to do that,” Chung said.

Chung continued that every person shall have the freedom to decide on getting the jabs or not, and enjoy equal rights when entering places.

He also slammed government is being ridiculous when describing the entry restrictions as “a little inconvenience.”

Chung pointed out that the physical condition of each citizen is different and the government cannot make such medical decisions without fully understanding the public's health condition.

He called on the judges to allow Hongkongers fight Covid their own ways, and recalled how he recovered from sickness by going vegetarian and reciting ancient scriptures.

Au then instructed the defense needed not to answer and adjourned the case awaiting the verdict to be delivered.
