Third jab rate reaches 60pc as vaccine pass requirement tightens

Over 4 million Hongkongers have received the booster jabs, taking up almost 60 percent of the population aged 12 or above as the third stage of the vaccine pass requirement kicked in late last month.

Starting May 31, citizens aged 12 or above who have received their second jabs for six months or more must receive the booster jab before entering premises including restaurants, supermarket, cinemas, supermarket, malls and fitness centers.

Recently citizens have been rushing to vaccination centers throughout the city to fulfill government requirement. As of Friday, a total of 4,011,416 citizens have received the third jab.

Among them, about 2.7 million opted for BioNTech vaccine while another 1.3 million chose Sinovac.

Government reminded the public to scan the LeaveHomeSafe venue QR code and present their vaccine pass or Covid recovery QR code to staff before entering restaurants or bars.

Live performance and dancing activities are prohibited while masks must be on at non-dining area. The number of guests served per table is capped at eight and four for restaurants and bars respectively.

Government also warned that breaching the Covid rules or the vaccine pass requirement would result in penalty up to HK$10,000.
