The steady low number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital wards has been the trend in recent weeks. Even the health authorities highlighted that the number was below 400 patients, and that the system was far from collapsing.
This has changed in the last few weeks. Since towards the end of May the numbers have been increasing.
On May 29, for example, 352 people were hospitalized (in the ward and in intensive care units or ICUs). However, until yesterday, June 10, 472 hospitalized were reported.
In intensive care units, the number also went up. On May 25 a total of 67 patients were reported in ICUs. The trend was downward. But it changed.
As of Wednesday, June 10, 91 people hospitalized in the ICU were reported, which is 35% increase from May 25.
According to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the total number of accumulated positive cases in Panama is 17,889. The total number of deaths increased to 413.
