Talents and enterprises relocating to Singapore a temporary trend: CY Leung

Former chief executive Leung Chun-ying said talents and enterprises relocating to Singapore is only a temporary trend and there is no need to always mention the Lion City for Hong Kong has its own opportunities as well.

Speaking on a radio program Saturday, Leung, also the vice-chair of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said Singapore is a smaller place with also a smaller population.

Singapore will have to comfort nationals’ emotions after attracting a great number of immigrants as well, Leung said.

Although Singapore is a key region for the developments of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Hong Kong can benefit from China’s rapid developments, the former CE noted.

Both regions have their own development opportunities and Hongkongers need not to mention Singapore all the time, Leung pointed out.

He urged citizens to do their job well and tell the world the stories of Hong Kong and China right.

On another note, he spoke of China’s handling on Covid-19, which puts people’s lives as top priority, and slammed criticism from the U.S. and Europe as false and unscientific.

Leung referred to bank industry’s heavyweights attending Hong Kong’s investment summit in person last November and mocked that “Americans act very honestly.”
