Candidates attending the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education exam took extra precautions against the coronavirus as the three-week university entrance exams kick off today, with English reading and writing exams served as appetizers.
At an exam venue at Pui Kiu Middle School in North Point, dozens of candidates arrived early this morning at 7am. As they waited outside the school gate, many of them seized the last chance to go through their revision notes.
One candidate told reporters that he woke up half an hour early today at 6am in order to take the rapid antigen test.
This year’s exam requires students to take rapid antigen tests before exams every morning.
If students test positive or become a close contact of a
Covid patient, they must call the HKEAA at 3628-8860 before 6.30am to inform them if they will take the exam. If they decide to take the exam, they have to call 3693-4770 to book a designated
Covid taxi to escort them to Penny’s Bay.
In Shek Kip Mei, exam taker Lui wore two masks and a face shield as she walked toward her exam venue.
“Although it is a bit troublesome, this will make sure I can stay healthy for the rest of the exams,” said Lui, adding she had received both doses of the
Covid vaccine.
Some others also said they would use disinfecting wipes to clean the table before the exams.
Meanwhile, candidates outside the exam venue at CMA Secondary School were in for a surprise encouragement from Chow Yun-fat, as the local movie superstar passed by the school during his morning jog.
