Special needs education school in Tai Po reports child abuse scandal

Education authorities received multiple child abuse complaints on Sunday concerning Hong Chi Pinehill No.2 School and required the school to launch an investigation.

Located in Pinehill Village in Tai Po, the special needs education school serves children with severe intellectual disabilities and accommodates 64 students currently.

The Education Bureau received complaints from parents that revealed chronic child abuse accidents in the school, including tying up children's hands and suffocating children by putting a towel over their faces.

A parent claimed to find bruises on his child's arms in May this year. He called the police afterwards but learned the housemaster who approved tying the child has not been punished.

Also, a parent reported that the school has confirmed multiple students infected with Covid-19 and sent patients to quarantine centres in September this year, but refused to inform parents of the location.

Further investigation is underway by the police, with Hong Chi Association - the school's parent institution - claiming to follow up with the case.
