Chan added that it is unlikely that the measures will be eased before the Chinese New Year.

In view of Hong Kong’s extended social distancing measures, the Education Bureau also announced that Schools in the city will continue their suspension of face-to-face classes until school Chinese New Year holidays.

Currently, Secondary Six students and those preparing for overseas public exams will be given the discretion to attend in-person classes, as well as Primary Six students returning to schools for secondary school placement exams.

Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung Yun-hung said starting from January 11, such arrangements will be extended to all other primary and secondary students.

“For primary schools, only morning sessions are recommended, tutorial schools can also allow pupils to return for half-day lessons following the guidelines. Kindergarten classes will remain suspended,” he added.
