The social behavior of the population is one of the key pieces to slow down the transmission of the virus, since people are the main transmitters of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
That is the conclusion that is raised in the report "Social Observatory on the Behavior of Covid-19 in Panama", prepared by the Center for Scientific Research of Social Sciences (Cenics), in collaboration with teachers from the Universidad Santa María la Antigua and members of the National Research System of the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation.
The researchers warned last March that the health authorities can detect, treat, and cure the disease, but it is the population that must avoid becoming infected.
After three months of health crisis in the country, the situation is more complex, since cases are reported in the provinces with the largest number of poor: Panama and West Panama.
Luis Carlos Herrera, scientist at Cenics, indicated that the epidemic in the country revealed the magnitude of the historical social problems of our society.
He added that the behavior of the people, of not complying with the dictated measures, is due to cultural, family, labor and economic factors.
Meanwhile, the National Government announced yesterday that it increased the number of diagnostic tests, the active search for cases and hospital capacity, and asked the population to join the efforts to jointly combat the virus.
