Smokers more likely to develop severe symptoms with Covid-19

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) smokers are more likely to develop severe symptoms if they are infected with Covid-19.

A group of public health experts, brought together by the WHO, established that smokers are more likely to develop severe symptoms if they suffer from the virus compared to non-smokers.

In Panama there are currently a total of 11,728 people infected with the coronavirus and 315 deaths have been reported.

In addition, on Wednesday, May 27, 281 new cases and 7,379 people recovered were reported in the country.

Due to the situation with smokers, the Regional Health Directorate of the San Miguelito district gave managers of the supermarkets in the area two signboards with information on the prohibition of smoking in public places.

These signboards must be located in the different stores and say the following: "The use of electronic nicotine delivery systems, electronic cigarettes, vaporizers or other similar devices with or without nicotine is prohibited."

The signboard highlights what is established in Law No. 13 of January 2008, which adopts measures for the control of tobacco and its harmful effects on health.
