Shortened quarantine a possibility

Macau chief executive Ho Iat-seng hopes to further relax epidemic prevention measures over the summer and strive for a “7+7” quarantine period if the Covid-19 pandemic stabilises locally and in the mainland.

Currently, overseas visitors as well as those from medium and high-risk areas including Hong Kong and Taiwan, are required to undergo 14 days of medical observation in hotels followed by 7 days of home quarantine.

Ho said on Monday that four cities in the mainland have already implemented “7+7” quarantine measures: a 7-day medical observation period followed by 7 days of home quarantine.

Macau will continue to evaluate the mainland’s 10+7 measures, and consider shortening the current quarantine period during the summer holiday.

Regarding the reopening of Hong Kong’s and Macau’s borders, Ho said that he is not in charge of such decisions. Instead, it will be up to the health and public security departments.

As for border controls between Macau and Zhuhai, Ho said that both locations only require nucleic acid test results 7 days prior to the date of departure, which is already very relaxed.
