Sanitary fence established in Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí Grande

The health minister, Rosario Turner, announced that a sanitary fence will be established in parts of Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí Grande in order to mitigate COVID cases-19 in these sectors.

In addition, she indicated that measures will be increased to reduce mobility time in areas where sanitary recommendations are not met. "We want to do it with the least possible social impact and without harming the economic reactivation," Turner said.

The minister added that the other control measures that will be established will be announced during the day, however she clarified that there is no talk of a total quarantine, but rather a return to greater control of mobility time, even on weekends.

A large number of people went out to exercise without complying with the measures in Cinta Costera, and long lines in supermarkets, after the lifting of the quarantine and the reopening of the second block of economic activities, on June 1, in addition to the increase in cases and RT in 23 townships in the country.

"We alone can't [do this], we need the community before the health system collapses," Turner said.

To date, Panama accumulates 14,609 cases of COVID-19 in total and 354 deaths; In addition, it registered 514 cases in the last 24 hours, which would be the highest number of added daily cases.
