San Miguelito has more COVID-19 infections than Colón and seven other provinces

San Miguelito has 1,126 cases of COVID-19 surpassing Colón and seven other provinces of the country, the regional health director of San Miguelito, Yaritzel Ríos, reported on Wednesday.

Data from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Tuesday, May 19 reveal that only the provinces of Panama and Panama West have more patients infected with coronavirus than San Miguelito.

Panama has 6,258 infected people, while Panama West has 1,856.

Ríos also reported that of the 1,126 patients infected with COVID-19 in San Miguelito, 244 have managed to recover from the virus and 31 are still hospitalized.

According to Rios, actions are being taken in the district with the aim of mitigating the contagion of COVID-19.

He indicated that the high number of cases could be due to different factors, among which he mentioned overcrowding conditions and non-compliance in the use of masks.

"We have been in meetings with the authorities, the Mayor, representatives, and the police to see how we can reduce these cases. We are in the communities distributing masks, explaining the importance of putting on their masks when leaving the house, we are also measuring temperatures and trying to ensure that people who are not able isolate in their homes, the hotel isolation is offered", said Ríos. .

He added that they are also conducting talks in the communities about the importance of following all the measures recommended by the authorities.

From the San Miguelito's 1,126 cases of coronavirus, 782 are in home isolation, 38 in hotels, 31 hospitalized and 244 recovered, Ríos said.
