Roberto Durán beats coronavirus, released from hospital

Panamanian boxing legend Roberto 'Hands of Stone' Durán, who was admitted to a private hospital last week, and tested positive for Covid-19, was released by doctors on the afternoon of Thursday, July 2.

What can I say about the joy; so much kindness, and so much affection and so much love that they have had with me. I have no words. How strange! God bless you! said Durán, escorted by health personnel who cheered and waved small Panama flags.

Thank you for putting all the effort, practically, to save my life, added the boxing legend from a wheelchair.

Durán had entered the hospital after showing flu symptoms. The doctors decided to leave him hospitalized, due to his age - he turned 69 on June 16 - and after a COVID-19 test turned positive.

Nicknamed “Manos de Piedra” (eng. "hands of stone"), Durán is recognized worldwide as one of the best light weight (135 pounds) boxers of all time.

He has a record of 103 fights won, 16 losses, 70 won by knockout.
