Restaurants will be allowed to extend dine-in services to midnight and seat more people at each table --- on the condition that all staffers get vaccinated and all diners use the Leave Home Safe app.
Chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor today said in view of the good signs of Hong Kong’s epidemic slowly getting under control, the city will now adopt a new roadmap fighting the coronavirus under the concept of “vaccine bubble” – meaning relaxations in social distancing measures will depend on vaccination, to encourage citizens to get the jab.
Those who have completed both doses of the coronavirus vaccine will be allowed to form “vaccine bubbles” for social interactions and large gatherings, Lam said.
In the case of restaurants, if all all employees received the first dose of Covid vaccine and all diners agree to use the “LeaveHomeSafe” app instead of leaving their personal info on paper, the limit on the number of customers per table at restaurants can be relaxed to six from four. Dine-in services can be extended to mid-night from 10pm.
More relaxation is allowed in a second phase, which would require all restaurant employees to receive both doses of the vaccine and waited 14 days for antibodies to develop. Diners will also be required to receive their first dose of the vaccine along with using the tracing app.
Under the second phase, restaurants can draw up a “clean zone” for those customers who had their first jab. Within the clean zone, the limit on the number of customers per table can be relaxed to eight. The restaurant can also organize banquets accommodating up to 100 people inside the zone.
As for the third phase, if the zone only accommodate patrons who had both jabs plus 14 days for antibodies to develop, the limit on the number of customers per table can be further relaxed to 12.
