The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, announced that he has instructed the administrator of the Public Services Authority (ASEP), Armando Fuentes Rodríguez, to order the distribution companies to thoroughly review all the electric energy bills of the clients, corresponding to last March.

Through his Twitter account, the president announced that he also instructed the administrator Fuentes to be "very aware" of customer billing in the coming months, and to keep him "well informed" of any situation.

President Cortizo Cohen reiterated that in the next three months "there will be no cuts" in electricity service for any client of the distribution companies. In advance, the president, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, had ordered to apply a decrease in the cost of the rate, as a humanitarian measure due to the crisis unleashed by the disease.

The president's announcement comes amid complaints on consumer social networks that complain about alleged indiscriminate increases amid the state of national emergency due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

ASEP announced yesterday that it will establish a mechanism for direct communication so that electricity distribution companies in the country can receive complaints from their customers; in addition, the administrator sent a note to the electricity distribution companies Metro-Oeste SA (EDEMET); Chiriquí, SA (EDECHI) and Elektra Noreste, SA (ENSA), in which it indicates what actions must be taken to receive customer complaints.
