Physical classes to fully return in February 2023, after-school activities open to unvaxxed students

Students can finally say goodbye to online lessons and say hello to classmates as Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin announced Wednesday that schools can fully resume in-person classes starting in February.

The class resumption arrangement will apply to secondary schools on February 1 and to primary schools and kindergartens on February 15, according to Choi's social media post published at night.

By then, schools can stage physical classes without requiring students' vaccination rates reaching certain levels.

As Hong Kong scraps the vaccine pass scheme, students will also be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities regardless of their vaccination status. Teachers, staffers and other people entering school campuses need not to present vaccination proof anymore as well.

Meanwhile, students of secondary and primary schools and kindergartens are still required to take a rapid antigen test everyday before leaving home for school.

“We will continue to review and adjust the daily rapid Covid test requirement for students and teachers,” Choi added.
