Panama records 1,099 new COVID-19 cases and 16 new deaths in 24 hours

According to the official data, the total number of infected with the virus in the country is now 32,785, while 15,595 patients have clinically recovered from the disease. There are currently 16,570 active cases.

Testing

3,225 new tests were conducted in since the last report, of which 34% were positive. The number of total tests is now 128,795, of which 93,124 were negative.

Testing rate is reported to cover 3,010 per 100,000 population.

Treatment

14,916 patients are in home isolation and 718 are in so-called hospital hotels.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 744 are in the hospital ward and 147 in the intensive care units.

New Hospital Control Center

This Monday, the Interhospital Control Center was installed at the Minsa headquarters. It is coordinated between Minsa and the Social Security Fund (CSS), reported Minister Luis Francisco Sucre.

He explained that the center aims to make a permanent analysis of the installed capacity of the different medical centers in the country to provide more efficient care and facilitate their management and lead to the proper administration of each of the hospitals.

It also seeks to provide real-time information on the situation in the country in order to organize, if necessary, coverage for the growing demand for Covid-19 patients.

Through the center it is intended to effectively strengthen the national health system of both institutions, said Sucre.

Yesterday 15 beds were installed in the ICU at the Integrated Hospital Panama Solidario, in Albrook.

It was also reported, through the statement, that today, Monday in the Presidency of the Republic the new Health Advisory Council met with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Thematic Commission that make up the technical advisory team of the Minsa.

In this meeting, the country's situation with respect to the new virus and the actions to return to the "new normal" were evaluated.
