Panama Covid-19 deaths increase to 299; total infected 10,577

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced on Saturday afternoon, May 23, that the coronavirus has left a total of 299 dead in the country. There are 156 new cases of the virus in 24 hours.

According to official data, the total number of infected with the virus in the country is now 10,577, while 6,279 patients have recovered from the disease.

3,688 patients are in home isolation, of which 590 are in so-called hospital hotels.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 331 people are hospitalized; 265 of those in the ward and 66 in the intensive care units.

1,731 new tests were conducted in since the last report. The number of total tests is now 56,755, of which 44,156 were negative.

Cases by provinces: Panama 6,747 (+231), Panama West 1,931 (+52), Bocas del Toro 103 (+9), Veraguas 407 (+7), Colón 405 (+6), Chiriquí 300 (+4), Darién 205 (+1), Guna Yala 227 (+0), Coclé 88 (+0), Ngäbe Buglé 79 (+0), Herrera 16 (+0) and Los Santos 17 (+0).

Note: the numbers are from the official MINSA report, however, yesterday there were 10,267 total cases were reported, which would indicate that the number of new cases over the last 24 hours was actually 310.
