The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, said on Thursday, July 16, that his Government coordinates, once it is available in the market, the purchase of the vaccine against the Covid-19 disease. The process is done with the support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health.
This was said by Cortizo during his visit to the community traceability center in the San Miguelito district, where he announced that the vaccines that Panama could acquire are those of Oxford and Moderna.
The Republic of Panama is already advancing on that path because it is very likely that we have a good vaccine by the end of this year and the beginning of next, he said.
Cortizo emphasized that Panama does not want to be on a waiting list, but that progress is already being made to have a significant amount for health and safety sector officials, who recalled they are on the front line of the battle.
On the other hand, the president assured, about the increase in cases of infected, that Panama does not make up the figures.
He also recalled that more tests are being carried out in the country to detect the new coronavirus and stressed that at the beginning only 300 were carried out daily.
Cortizo added that the goal of his administration is to carry out 4,000 tests a day and that they are also buying medications, such as Remdesivir to treat those infected with Covid-19.
