Panama approves funds to buy 1,920,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca

The Republic of Panama will buy 1,920,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine worth $4,368,000, from the British pharmaceutical AstraZeneca UK Limited, in association with Oxford University.

This after the Cabinet Council approved Cabinet Resolution 93-20 on Wednesday, through which the Ministry of Health (Minsa) is authorized to proceed with the purchase on behalf of the Republic.

To finalize the sale, the payment of 20% of the total cost ($873,600) of the vaccine to AstraZeneca was also approved, before November 30.

This vaccine, which is in phase III, which implies that the trials have been applied in thousands of volunteers and is ready to present its protocols to international organizations, which must certify it as a safe and effective vaccine, to ensure that the entire population, highlights the President's office in a statement.
