More than 50 percent of Hong Kong people backed the "red and yellow" health code system, a survey found, while most citizens support the "4+3" quarantine for inbound travelers.
New Youth Forum surveyed 548 citizens aged 18 or above between July 25 to 29 by phone. Nearly 55 percent of the respondents supported the real-name registry for the LeaveHomeSafe App, as well as the color-coded health pass that is set to launch in August.
More than 60 percent hoped to restrict holders of yellow codes to enter high-risk places, such as restaurants and entertainment venues, and to include those close contacts under the yellow code.
However, about 70 percent hoped the government could relax the restrictions on the entry of foreigners. When asked whether they would prefer a 5-day or 4-day hotel quarantine, more people support the "4+3" option which requires fewer days of quarantine in hotels than the "5+2" one.
New Youth Forum advisor Chan Wai-keung believed that if Hong Kong followed Singapore's practice, quarantine-free travel with overseas countries will not be a problem.
Chan also said the Covid prevention measures in Hong Kong are different from that of the mainland, which was closer to western countries, so resuming quarantine-free travel with the mainland was expected to be more difficult.
However, he believed that as long as the confirmed cases in Hong Kong drops, coupled with the further tightening of anti-epidemic rules, there will be opportunities for free travel between Hong Kong and the mainland.
