None infected from 1,000 tested in lockdowns as HK expects around 20 new Covid cases

The government has again found no one tested positive for the coronavirus from its latest overnight lockdown in Yuen Long and Ma On Shan, with around 1,000 people being tested.

The overnight lockdowns at a private estate - Fu Loy Garden in Yuen Long and a public housing block - Heng Kong House of Heng On Estate in Ma On Shan, were completed on Saturday morning.

The surprise lockdown orders came on Friday evening, with a total of 1,033 residents tested and the authorities said they were all clear of the coronavirus.

So far in the 17 “guerrilla lockdowns” from the past 11 days, two infections were detected, prompting health experts to question the lockdowns’ effectiveness.

Meanwhile, health officials are about to report around 20 Covid cases in the territory today.

The Centre for Health Protection yesterday confirmed 37 Covid patients, three imported and 34 local – bringing the tally to 10,590 cases, including 186 deaths.
