Hong Kong’s railway operator told a Legco panel that there were eight incidents last year that saw train services delayed by more than 31 minutes.

Speaking to the panel on Friday, an MTR spokesman said as the Covid pandemic eased and the East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension commenced services, passenger traffic has gradually increased in the second half of 2022.

The railway operator also reported 154 incidents that caused delays of within eight minutes and eight incidents that caused delays of more than 31 minutes.

The figures have dropped by 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively, when compared to the 2021 data, according to the MTRC.

Meanwhile, the operator said they have achieved a performance level of 99.96% for “passengers journey on time”.

Separately, the Transport and Logistics Bureau said authorities have placed emphasis on two major incidents with the MTR last year, and have set up independent panels to closely oversee the comprehensive review being conducted by the corporation on its asset management and maintenance regime.
