Minsa warns of "throwing back" opening of blocks if indicators of COVID-19 worsen

Despite the fact that the opening of Block 2 on Monday, June 1, Minister Rosario Turner warned this Saturday that if it is necessary to “back off”, from worsening COVID-19 indicators, Panama will return to previous stage.

Turner said that if at any time the following parameters are altered: the transmission rate, limitation in screening capacity or if the installed capacity of hospitals is exceeded, "rest assured that, if we have to back down, we will do it."

During a virtual meeting with regional directors from all over the country, the Minister of Health asked them to reinforce primary care in health centers, and in addition, a human resource was designated exclusively to verify that the guidelines and protocols established by the Ministry are complied with, work to be carried out in coordination with the ministries of Labor and Labor Development and of Commerce and Industries.

She insisted on the importance of people using face masks, respecting and maintaining physical distance, now that the country is moving to the opening of block 2.

Turner said that, according to epidemiological reports, the townships of Tocumen, Curundú in Panama City, Belisario Porras in San Miguelito, and Arraiján, currently head, have infection rates that require greater commitment from the population and monitoring of cases.

The Minsa asks residents of these areas to stay at home and reinforce hygiene measures such as hand washing with soap and water, as well as the use of masks and the social distancing.
