Like China's Covid relaxations, Hong Kong's move also highlights scientific accuracy

Hong Kong shortening the quarantine and testing period to five days is like the latest 10 relaxations announced by Beijing, chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu said as he stressed the scientific accuracy of the move.

Speaking at an event on Thursday night, Lee first praised mainland's measures concentrate on enhancing the Covid rules accurately. He then continued the SAR government's move to shorten the quarantine period to five days came under the same condition, so as to stress scientific accuracy.

Lee went on to say that the mask mandate and boosting the vaccination rates for children and elderly remain some key parts in this anti-pandemic fight that Hong Kong must excel at. He warned of the upcoming winter flu season as well.

The Hong Kong leader then spoke of the quota of Shenzhen's quarantine hotel being increased to 2,000, adding it is a good sign.

Lee said he understands citizens' expectations on full borders reopening and that the SAR government will continue the discussion with Beijing to ensure things can proceed forward steadily.
