Hundreds rush to macau border as zhuhai resumes quarantines

More than 100 people gathered at Qingmao Port after midnight to wait for their test results as Zhuhai requested arrivals from Macau to undergo a 14-day quarantine from 6am yesterday.

Meanwhile, no positive case has been found in the second round of universal Covid-19 testing in Macau so far as the city entered a "state of immediate prevention" from Saturday midnight after two security guards at a quarantine hotel were infected.

The Hong Kong government has suspended the Return2hk and Come2hk schemes for all Macau arrivals from 10pm on Saturday.

The two security guards at the Golden Crown China Hotel tested positive for the virus on Friday and were listed as related to imported cases. The infections have triggered citywide testing from Saturday to tomorrow.

As of 3pm yesterday, more than 170,000 people have been tested, according to Macau authorities. All 160,000 tests that have been processed came back negative.

The Zhuhai government required all travelers from Macau, except cross-border truck drivers, funeral home staff and doctors treating critically ill patients, to undergo a 14-day quarantine starting 6am yesterday.

Travelers from Macau to Zhuhai rushed to the border before the 6am deadline and waited for their test results to pass the border. More than a hundred were still waiting after midnight.

Meanwhile in Hong Kong, health authorities recorded eight imported cases from the Czech Republic, the United States, the Philippines, Maldives and Spain yesterday, taking the city's tally to 12,194 cases, with 213 deaths.

All except a 13-year-old boy from Maldives were fully vaccinated. The boy, a domestic helper from the Philippines and two travelers from Czech Republic and Spain carried the L452R mutant strain.

Separately, health officials are investigating an overseas case involving a 19-year-old woman who lived at Suet Fung House at Fung Tak Estate in Diamond Hill. She has received both doses of BioNTech vaccine in Hong Kong.

The woman tested negative before traveling to the United Kingdom on September 16. But she tested positive in the UK on September 19.

The woman last worked on the 24th floor of the Wing On House in Central on September 10. She also camped from September 5 to 6 at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups - Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp in Sai Kung. Her residence, office, and training camp will be subjected to compulsory tests.
