Faced with the possibility of an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the country, the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex is in the process of becoming an exclusive hospital for patients with coronavirus.
This was announced by the director of the Social Security Fund (CSS), Enrique Lau Cortés, during a tour he made at the institution.
He also indicated that a month and a half ago the number of patients arriving at the Complex, most of them did not have the virus, however the percentage was reversed and currently, about 70% of patients in this hospital are infected with COVID-19 .
Previously, the neurosurgery room of the Complex was enabled for patients with COVID-19, given that the Intensive Care Unit was reaching its maximum capacity.
According to Lau Cortés' statements, the CSS until yesterday's report had 829 beds available throughout the country to face any increase in patient numbers.
To date, Panama has over 30,000 cases of COVID-109 and totals nearly 600 deaths from the virus.
