Hong Kong sees 8,448 new Covid cases with four deaths

The government confirmed 8,488 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, including 236 imported cases and four deaths.

The situation of a Covid-positive seventeenth-month-old boy worsened. He was under treatment in the intensive care unit and had to be intubated and connected to a mechanical ventilator to assist his breathing.

People infected with the variant of virus BA.4/5 are to become dominant, accounting for nearly 52.8 percent of all the patients.

Among the four deaths aged 89 to 101, only one received three doses of vaccines.

Besides, 140 staff of the Health Authority reported being confirmed positive, while 130 staff have been discharged from the hospital and returned to work.

One male patient was infected in Prince of Wales Hospital followed by another eight male patients found, with hospitalizing services in their wards suspended.

Authorities received 114 schools reporting 206 confirmed cases today.

Public hospitals now accommodate 2,556 Covid-19 patients, including 338 newly admitted, 52 in critical conditions, and 40 with severe symptoms.
