Hong Kong reports one local infection

A friend of an ethnic Indian carrying the Covid-19 variant has been infected as the city reports 30 new cases today.

Among the cases, only the 31-year-old woman is a local case whereas the rest are imported cases.

The local case found today involves a woman who lives at Parkes Building in Yau Ma Tei, where the first infection with a mutant strain in the community was found earlier. She didn’t develop any symptoms.

Yesterday an Indian was tested positive, carrying the N501Y variant. He finished a 21-day quarantine and has undergone three virus tests with negative results. He was then tested positive when preparing to travel to Dubai.

The Indian has stayed at the woman’s home at the Parkes Building after his 21-day quarantine. The CHP is now tracing her activities.

Residents at that building have been sent to quarantine centers for 21-day overnight lockdown.

For the imported cases, 11 men and 18 women are involved, aged between 1 to 63.

There are four people from Indonesia and one from Canada, the Philippines and Egypt respectively. The remaining 22 people travelled to the city from India on flight UK6395.

The city’s tally now stands at 11,684 confirmed cases.
