Hong Kong approves use of bivalent Covid vaccine

The Secretary for Health has authorized the BioNTech bivalent booster vaccine for emergency use in Hong Kong in accordance with the Prevention and Control of Disease (Use of Vaccines) Regulation, the government announced on Friday.

The first batch of the Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.4-5 bivalent vaccine to be supplied to Hong Kong is expected to arrive from Germany at the end of this month, the government statement wrote.

It also noted that authorities, following advice from its expert panels, will arrange for the bivalent vaccine to be used as an alternative to the fourth dose in accordance with the current vaccination schedule. The Sinovac and BioNTech vaccines currently available can continue to be used as the fourth dose.
