HK sees 814 Covid cases, warns territory-wide infection increasing

Hong Kong on Sunday reported 814 new Covid-19 cases, as health authorities warn of continuous rises in infections.

Among the cases, 364 were confirmed via PCR tests and the other 450 were positive RAT results confirmed by health authorities. Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection's communicable disease branch, reported that the caseload of the fifth wave now exceeded 1.205 million.

Chuang also spoke of 106 imported cases -- 64 detected at the airport, 34 at quarantine hotels and eight were patients who tested positive after completing the seven-day isolation.

Chuang said the local pandemic was not increasing in one or two districts for the time being but was seen a territory-wide increase. At the same time, the amount of virus detected in sewage, as well as the real-time effective reproductive number for local cases released by the University of Hong Kong, also recorded surges.

Plus it was estimated that there were still two to three million people in Hong Kong did not infect with the virus amid the peak of the fifth wave, so the authorities do not rule out a continuous rise in cases along with the hike in the flow of people.
