HK logs 10,683 new Covid cases with eight deaths

The government confirmed 10,683 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, including 194 imported cases and eight deaths.

People infected with BA.4/5 variant account for nearly 64.4 percent of all patients, said Au Ka-wing, the Center for Health Protection's principal medical and health officer.

Among the eight deaths were four men and four women aged 59 to 102, only one was triple-vaccinated, and one was never jabbed.

Seven care homes for the elderly reported 10 cases of infected residents, and one was reported in a care home for the disabled. A total number of 45 people in care homes were listed as close contact and needed to take the nucleic acid test.

Hospital Authority said 126 staff were diagnosed with Covid while 21 employees have returned to work after being discharged from hospitals, said Larry Lee Lap-yip, Chief Manager (Integrated Clinical Services) of the Hospital Authority.

Three male patients and one staff were tested positive in Yan Chai Hospital, followed by an 84-year-old male patient infected previously. The patients are now under treatment and in stable conditions, with hospitalizing services in their wards suspended.

Public hospitals now accommodate 2,793 new Covid-19 patients, including 356 newly admitted, 6 in critical conditions, and 54 with severe symptoms.
