The National Government installed on Thursday, June 25, a health advisory council whose main task will be to serve as an advisory body to President Laurentino Cortizo in strategies to continue the fight against Covid-19 .
The new Health Minister, Luis Francisco Sucre, who heads the group, introduced its members: the former Health Ministers: Jorge Medrano (1978-1982), Francisco Sánchez Cárdenas (1985) and Camilo Alleyne (2004-2007) as well as the current general director of the Social Security Fund, Enrique Lau Cortés, and the dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Panama, Enrique Mendoza.
Minister Councilor of Health, Eyra Ruiz will be the technical secretary. Ruiz was criminally sued - together with the former Minister of Health, Rosario Turner and the Minister of Labor, Doris Zapata - before the Public Ministry for giving green light for a meeting of the PRD bench in a restaurant, in the middle of the quarantine.
This advisory council is tasked to follow up on the traceability of infections, to determine the situation of the areas affected by the virus, and based on the results, the feasibility of reopening the following economic blocks will be considered, Ruiz explained.
She added that the council's work will have as immediate reference the indicators of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the installed capacity of the hospital care system as well as the monitoring of the traceability of those infected, to determine the places with more and less positive cases and based on these results, the opening of the economic blocks to the new normality is considered.
She said that the work of this group of experts will be parallel and concurrent with that of the Advisory Committee that has been accompanying the Ministry of Health in the current health situation.
