Government: Dry Law lifted completely on 22 June

With the enactment of Executive Decree No. 730 , starting next Monday, June 22, 2020, there will be no restrictions for the purchase of alcoholic beverages in Panama.

The sale of liquor will be exclusively for personal and household consumption. Only retail sales are authorized, in closed containers and in commercial establishments with proper authorization for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Government had implemented the Dry Law, which totally prohibited the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, a measure that was subsequently relaxed.

Currently, only the maximum sale of six beers or a bottle of liquor per person is allowed, but as of Monday this restriction is eliminated, with the exception of the regions that are under sanitary fencing.

The liquor industry requested the revision of these restrictions, considering that they were not effective in the fight against the disease, fostered a black market in alcoholic beverages and put thousands of jobs at risk.
