Chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu said on Friday that his administration is currently reviewing how many makeshift Covid hospitals the city should retain.
His comments came as reporters today asked the Hong Kong leader whether the demolition of the makeshift hospitals would be a waste of resources.
In response, Lee said he had instructed the deputy finance chief Michael Wong Wai-lun to look into how many of the hospitals the city should retain and put on standby mode.
He said unless a new virus has emerged, authorities will make the decisions according to the latest statistics to determine the need to put certain Covid facilities on standby mode.
The chief executive also noted the additional resources required should the Covid facilities be adopted for long-term use, especially when they require maintenance during the windy and rainy seasons.
He emphasized that the SAR would take everything into consideration before making a decision on how to manage the facilities.
Meanwhile, the community vaccination centers and community testing centers in Hong Kong will remain operational, according to the government, adding that authorities will review the need to abolish the testing sites according to the development of the Covid situation.
