Florists bounce back from pandemic on Mother’s Day

Local florists said the Covid-hit industry is recovering from the pandemic after families flocked to the Mong Kok Flower Market on Sunday morning to buy bouquets for Mother’s Day.

A store owner said more customers are visiting the Market compared to last year’s Mother’s Day, and the business has been satisfactory.

Among bouquet orders, which cost around HK$300 to HK$500, carnations are the most popular and followed by roses.

As the epidemic situation stabilized, more families were willing to visit the flower market and celebrate Mother’s Day.

Though sales are still around 30 percent lower than pre-pandemic levels, storeowners remain optimistic, believing that business will improve next year.

This Valentine’s Day, florists expected sales of bouquets to drop by about 30 percent compared to last year, as customers were unable to deliver flowers to offices amid Covid restrictions.
