Faced with the proposal of several medical unions to declare a total quarantine in the provinces of Panama and Panama Oeste, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, former Health Minister José Manuel Terán considers that this would create one crisis over another.
That is probably creating one crisis over another, creating an economic crisis over a health crisis that is taking some really troubling edges, said the also former adviser to the commission against COVID-19.
In his opinion, the Government should apply actions to send an adequate message to citizens, so that each person understands the responsibility they have to take care of themselves in the face of the pandemic.
What should be done is an adequate message, I mean that the Government today is with a message that has to do with the reduction of 50% of the salary to the ministers, 25% of the salary to the vice-ministers and managers, and another series of discounts, but what added value does that message have, none. I would like to see a message that reaches the citizen's conscience, that that citizen can understand that he is responsible for his own health and that he is the person who has to take care of himself to avoid arriving at his house and infecting other people, he emphasized.
He also pointed out that a team of tracers should be created at the national level, focusing mainly on those townships that today register the greatest number of positive cases, as well as a strategy for the isolation of people with COVID-19.
A message to the citizens of self-protection; hire the appropriate tracer teams, traceability; and have the ability to isolate and quarantine infected people, if we do not do this today there are 20,000 (active cases), within two weeks there may be 30,000 or 40,000, who knows, the number will continue to rise if We don't do these three things at the same time, said Terán.
