El Salvador registers almost 10,000 cases of Covid-19

The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, called on Monday the population to redouble precautionary measures, reaching 9,978 Covid-19 infections in the country, at times of strong spread of the new coronavirus.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), we will surely exceed the 10,000 confirmed cases in our country, Bukele warned on Twitter. The possibility of getting it is much greater than before, he added.

The president asked Salvadorans to take all possible precautionary measures to avoid contagion, which puts pressure on the hospitals' attention capacity.

El Salvador registered 304 new Covid-19 infections this Sunday, the highest number of cases in a single day.

With 6.6 million inhabitants in a territory of 20,742 square kilometers, El Salvador accumulates 9,778 cases of Covid-19, with 267 deaths and 5,732 people who have been cured.

The organization Doctors Without Borders alerted last week to the increase in deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic in the capital San Salvador, and warned of the possible collapse of the health system.
