Covid cluster at Castle Peak Hospital grows as HK sees 4,439 new cases

A Covid cluster at Castle Peak Hospital has seen 17 people infected so far as the city recorded 4,439 new cases on Friday.

Among the new cases, 4,222 were locally transmitted while the other 217 were imported cases, Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection said.

Health officials also reported four related deaths, pushing the overall death tally of the fifth wave to 9,346.

The deceased included three men and one woman, all aged 80 and above. Of which, an 82-year-old man was unvaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Covid cluster at Castle Peak Hospital has seen nine more patients and one staff infected. A total of 15 patients and 2 staff members were infected so far, whereas 29 patients have been listed as close contacts and required quarantine.

Separately, the center was informed of 214 positive cases from 179 schools, including 147 students and 67 teachers and staffers. Seven elderly homes and two care homes for the disabled also reported new infections.

Public hospitals and treatment facilities are now housing 1,565 patients. Among them, 26 are in critical condition and 21 are in serious condition. In the past 24 hours, 202 patients have recovered from Covid, and 166 of them have been discharged.
