Some community isolation facilities could be converted into transitional housing after the Covid-19 pandemic in Hong Kong gets under control, Secretary for Development Michael Wong Wai-lun said.
"When the epidemic situation has subsided, part of the facilities may have the potential to be turned into transitional housing,” Wong wrote in his blog on Saturday.
He added that the 3,000 units at the Kai Tai Cruise terminal community isolation facility will be completed in two phases in May and June, and the facility will have four stories with lifts.
He said the community isolation facilities at Kai Tak and Penny’s Bay were built using the modular integrated construction method, meaning that upon arrival at the construction site, most parts of the units such as windows and walls have already been installed, effectively reducing construction time.
Other community isolation facilities which have been in use are located in Tsing Yi, San Tin, the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities Island of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Fanling, Hung Shui Kiu, and Tam Mei in Yuen Long.
