Checkpoints are reinforced in Veraguas and Chiriquí after an increase in COVID-19 cases

During a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Health, Luis Sucre, and authorities of the province of Veraguas, it was agreed to strengthen the checkpoint in Calobre and implement one in Divisa, in order to reduce community infections of COVID-19 in the region.

"The possibility of a siege in the province at the moment is not feasible, a joint decision has been made to reinforce the checkpoints," said Sucre.

According to Nadja Porcell, director of Health of the Minsa, the cluster of cases in the province of Veraguas is in the Santiago prison, so the fence is not functional.

Sucre added that at the same time the checkpoints in the areas of Guabalá, Chiriquí will be reinforced, where there are also a large number of cases.

The authorities reiterated the call to stay home, and comply with the established sanitary measures.

To date, Veraguas has 781 cases, while Chiriquí has accumulated 430 infections. Nationwide there are 15,463 positive cases and a total of 370 deaths.
