Cathay Pacific will resume daily flights to Tokyo (Haneda) from November 1 and four flights to Sapporo a week from December 1, the airline announced Friday, shortly after Hong Kong further relaxed border controls.
“We intend to add more than 200 pairs of passenger flights in October to both regional and long-haul destinations. We will also increase flight frequencies to Tokyo (Narita) to 43 pairs and Osaka to 50 pairs in October,” a statement read.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced four Covid relaxations in a press conference Friday afternoon. They include the “0+3” quarantine measure, granting entry to unvaccinated residents, replacing the pre-arrival PCR test with an rapid antigen test (RAT), and scrapping the quota cap on both the Come2HK and Return2HK schemes.
Cathay welcomed the updated measures, and said: “These adjustments will help boost sentiment for travel, thereby facilitating the gradual resumption of travel activities and strengthening of network connectivity to, from and through the Hong Kong aviation hub.”
Pang Yiu-kai, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, also welcomed these relaxations.
“The new arrangements mark Hong Kong’s re-opening as a tourism gateway with significant international connections. This is expected to initially attract mainly business travelers, family visitors and returning Hong Kong residents,” Pang said.
“The application of the ‘Come2HK’ scheme to all mainland and Macau visitors and the removal of quotas for the scheme will also facilitate Mainland travelers to visit Hong Kong, especially business travelers and family visitors,” Pang also said.
