At-home vaccination service picks up steam

Over 27,000 elderly and handicapped people have registered for at-home Covid-19 vaccinations using a government hotline while over 18,000 have already gotten jabbed via the outreach service, Secretary for Civil Service Patrick Nip Tak-kuen said.

Alongside attending to those who called in, authorities have also contacted some 190,000 people - including those receiving allowances from the Social Welfare Department and those referred by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service - to help them register for at-home vaccinations, he added.

Nip's announcement came with an appeal for those aged 70 and above or those with physical handicaps to register for the free door-to-door service via the home vaccination service website or the inquiry hotline at 5688-5234.

In light of rising demand for vaccination services, the hotline will adjust its weekday service hours starting Monday to between 9am and 8pm.

On the same day, the children's community vaccination center at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong will begin offering BioNTech jabs to those aged 12 or above on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while continuing to administer the jab to children aged between five and 11.

Further, the number of designated outpatient clinics under the Hospital Authority that offer vaccination services will rise to 59 starting today.

Meanwhile, Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah received her fourth Sinovac dose yesterday.

Cheng said: "I appeal to those who are eligible to get their fourth jab and those who have yet to get vaccinated to act now. It is of utmost importance to build up immunity against the virus."
