Amber code holders allowed to go out but barred from restaurants and gyms

Authority announced to ease the quarantine days from Friday for arrivals and issue them with a red or amber health code to identify their health status. During the four-day surveillance after completing the quarantine at the hotel, uninfected arrivals are allowed to go outside but restricted from ‘activities in the high-risk areas.’

A health code with different colors in accordance with travelers' health status will be issued on their ‘LeaveHomeSafe’ apps.

People who are confirmed with Covid-19 will be issued with red code and required to stay in the quarantine area until they are tested as negative.

Amber Code-holders are also required to do rapid antigen tests and fever tests every day during the “3+4” quarantine period. They could go outside for restricted activities when wearing masks, such as taking public transportation, working, and entering shopping malls and markets if their daily RAT results are negative.

However, they are banned from joining mask-off activities or entering high-risk places with flocks gathering, such as restaurants, bars and pubs, gyms, beauty salons, amusement game centers, indoor public entertainment venues, club-houses, clubs/nightclubs, karaoke establishments, swimming pools, cruise ships, etc.; and not allowed to enter residential care homes for the elderly, care homes for the disabled, schools and designated healthcare premises.

Persons holding an amber code who are working or studying at those premises, or receiving services at designated healthcare premises, are not subject to the restriction under the Vaccine Pass. However, their entry will also depend on whether the employers or persons-in-charge of individual premises have set additional rules or requirements according to their needs.

The red and amber codes will turn to blue when travelers have completed the entire quarantine period. The LeaveHomeSafe app will launch a new updated version for the new code with colors.

Citizens except for new arrivals from overseas and Taiwan can continue to use the existing LeaveHomeSafe and other vaccination passports and their daily travels will not be affected, said Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry.

Besides, the close contact of Covid patients will not see their health code change color since the new system will not extend to them, said Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu.
