A 31-year-old woman charged with murdering her mother in Campo Lindbergh

The hearing on the charges against the 31-year-old woman who allegedly cut up and killed her mother, last weekend in Campo Lindbergh, was held on Thursday afternoon.

The judge ordered a provisional arrest for the accused while the investigation lasts.

The woman was charged with aggravated murder.

Sources linked to the process explained that the judge's decision to declare the accused's preventive detention was based on the risk that it poses to the rest of society and the possible destruction of evidence that may affect the investigations.

The victim, Maricel De León Lanker was a professor of physics and chemistry at the Universidad de Las Américas, and her daughter had moved to her apartment after the Covid-19 pandemic was declared.

The victim was found dead May 20, after residents of the Parque del Este complex noticed a strong smell that emanated from one of the fourth-floor apartments.

The building administrator knocked on the door and the 31-year-old daughter of the victim answered. The admin had explained that the neighbors were complaining about a strong smell, and that the plumber would come to have a look. The woman resisted and said that no-one would enter the apartment. The administrator decided to call the police.

Upon arrival, the National Police found the corpse of the older woman dismembered and distributed in boxes.

The Police proceeded to arrest the suspect, who turned out to be the educator's daughter, who had been the victim's apartment due to the country wide quarantine measures, according to some residents of this building.

It is unclear, if the suspect acted alone, or received help from someone.

The judge granted a term of six months to complete the investigations. Yesterday the prosecution carried out luminol tests in the apartment in search of blood residues, since on Monday, when they appeared at the crime scene, they did not locate any traces that indicated the use of a sharp weapon.
