913 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths in 24 hours reported in Panama

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced on Wednesday, July 1, that there are total of 34,463 cases of the virus in Panama. According to the official report, the coronavirus has left a total of 645 dead in the country.

According to the official data, the total number of infected with the virus in the country is now 34,463, while 15,945 patients have clinically recovered from the disease. There are currently 17,873 active cases.

Deaths

A total of 14 new deaths were recorded over 24 hours, which brings the total to 645. The death rate is currently 1.87% of the infected.

Note: Minsa has not reported the breakdown of deaths by gender, age and cause of death for the past days.

Testing

2,673 new tests were conducted in since the last report, of which 34% were positive. The number of total tests is now 133,449, of which 96,093 were negative.

Testing rate is reported to cover 3,119 per 100,000 population.

Treatment

16,251 patients are in home isolation and 679 are in so-called hospital hotels.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 794 are in the hospital ward and 149 in the intensive care units.

Cases by provinces: Panama 21,312, Panama Oeste 6,014, Colón 1,478, Chiriquí 1,399, Bocas del Toro 1,165, Veraguas 1,160, Darién 943, Ngäbe Buglé 342, Coclé 293, Guna Yala 260, Herrera 68 and Los Santos 29.

Strategies are refined to achieve better hospital performance

The Ministry said that following instructions from President Laurentino Cortizo, the Ministry of Health, together with the Social Security Fund (CSS), continue to work to fine-tune the installed capacity of the main hospitals in the country.

In this regard, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, said that currently there are beds available, which are coordinated through the Interhospital Control Center that was installed at the beginning of the week in order to have a better performance of the capacity of these centers.

In total, the network of public hospitals in the metropolitan area (Minsa and CSS) has 98 beds available in the ward, 33 in the ICU and 12 in semi-intensive care. While in the rest of the country there is provision in all provinces.

It was also reported that efforts are coordinated to enable spaces in the Figali Convention Center and the Amador Convention Center to use them, if necessary.

With the expansion of the wards in the CSS and other hospitals, new beds can now be installed to treat Covid-19 positive patients.

The Minister for Health, Eyra Ruíz, announced that they are working together with the CSS so that, as President Cortizo said in his report to the Nation today, the goal of applying 4,000 daily tests to detect to people infected with the virus and thus break the chain of contagion and spread.
