625 new COVID-19 cases within 24 hours; total cases 19,211

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced on Friday, June 12, that there are 625 new cases of the virus in 24 hours. According to the official report, the coronavirus has left a total of 421 dead in the country.

According to the official data, the total number of infected with the virus in the country is now 19,211, while 13,759 patients have recovered from the disease.

A total of three new deaths were recorded over 24 hours. One of the new death cases was a women, at age 97, and two men at age 62 and 69.

There are currently 5,032 active cases.

Testing

2,034 new tests were conducted in since the last report. The number of total tests is now 87,041, of which 65,209 were negative.

Testing rate is reported to cover 2,034 per 100,000 population.

Treatment

3,798 patients are in home isolation and 739 are in so-called hospital hotels.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 398 are in the hospital ward and 96 in the intensive care units.

The Vice Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, reminded that from 5:00 pm, on Saturday, June 13 to 5:00 am, on Monday, June 15, the curfew will be in effect for Panama, West Panama and San Miguelito.

Sucre said that in the sectors where the Rt (effective reproductive number of cases or average value of the contagion rate) is greater than 1, Health personnel have been reinforced, who are going from house to house find people infected with Covid-19, and thus give them the necessary treatment and isolate them to avoid further infections.

He added that this Friday, the Health Minister, Rosario Turner, met with the regional health directors of Panamá Metro, Panamá Norte, San Miguelito and Panamá Oeste, areas where the majority of active and accumulated cases of coronavirus are. They were given 15,000 rapid tests to detect the virus, the results of which are obtained in 15 to 30 minutes.
