Vivian Kong defeated in fencing quarter final

Hong Kong's Vivian Kong Man-wai was defeated by Aizanat Murtazaeva from Russia in the quarter final of the women's épée individual.

Still, Kong remains the first Hong Kong fencer ever to reach an Olympics fencing quarter final.

Kong led 2:1 in the first round, however Murtazaeva overtook her in the second round by 6:5.

In the third round Kong attempted to turn the tables but failed. In the end Murtazaeva won the game 15:10 and proceeded to the semi-final.

Before facing Murtazaeva, Kong defeated Maria Luisa Diog Calderon from Peru in the round of 32 and Renata Knapik-Miazga from Poland in the round of 16.

In a post-match interview Kong praised Murtazaeva for her performance and apologized to her supporters, hoping she would relax and perform better in the upcoming team matches.
